Donald Trump Hits Back After Meryl Streep’s Golden Globe Speech – ‘Over-Rated Actress’

The standout moment everyone is talking about from this year’s Golden Globe Awards has to be Meryl Streep’s powerful speech, in which she shames Donald Trump for his discriminative behaviour.

But it seems President-elect Trump has fired back, branding Streep as ‘one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood’.

The 70-year old businessman turned politician isn’t taking Meryl’s public attack easily, calling her a ‘Hillary Clinton flunky’.

Streep was accepting her Cecile B. DeMille Award at the 2017 awards ceremony, using her speech as the ideal time to tell people what she thought of the new U.S. president, without actually mentioning his name once.

The world famous actress, best known for movies The Iron LadyMamma Mia!, Into The Woods and many more, slammed Trump for his campaign tactics, particularly highlighting the moment he appeared to mock a disabled reporter during one of his speeches.

It was at a campaign rally in November 2015 that Donald ridiculed reporter Serge Kovaleski.

That instinct to humiliate, when it’s modeled by someone in a public platform, it filters down into everyone’s life because it gives permission for others to do the same.

Streep stood firm in her speech, telling the room full of Hollywood stars exactly how she felt about Trump’s prejudice and discriminative attitude.

Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others we all lose.

Yet Trump hasn’t remained quiet on the matter, taking to Twitter to address Streep’s speech.

The 67-year old actress, who has won three Oscars during her career, been nominated for a record breaking 19 Academy Awards and 30 Golden Globes over the last fifty years, was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award in honour of all her outstanding hard work and contribution over the years.

Being a proud and outspoken Hillary Clinton supporter over the campaign period, it’s no surprise she used her acceptance speech time wisely to disgrace Trump on such a national platform.
